Why Accurate Traffic Data Matters as South East Queensland Grows
South East Queensland is one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions. From Brisbane to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay and the rapidly expanding western growth corridors, the region is under increasing pressure to deliver transport networks that are safer, smarter and more efficient.
As population growth continues, so does the demand on roads, intersections, freight routes, public transport corridors, active transport links and local streets. New housing, industrial estates, schools, shopping centres and community facilities all create changes in how people move. These changes can be gradual, but they can also happen quickly when new developments are completed or major infrastructure projects reshape travel patterns.
For transport planners, traffic engineers, councils and developers, accurate traffic data is no longer a “nice to have”. It is essential.
Reliable data provides the evidence needed to understand how a road network is currently performing. Vehicle counts, turning movement surveys, queue length observations, travel time studies, classification surveys and pedestrian or cyclist counts help engineers identify where pressure points exist and where future issues may emerge. Without accurate data, decisions are often based on assumptions — and assumptions can lead to poor outcomes.
